This is the jaw-dropping moment a lone kayaker decided to really take the plunge plummeting down a 128-foot waterfall. Kayak legend Rafa Ortiz was caught on camera tackling the enormous Big Banana Falls, in Mexico, by extreme sports photographer Lucas Gilman.

If you like nature, panoramic views and trekking you should have a trip to Cavagrande del Cassibile during your holiday in Sicily. It’s a huge nature reserve which surrounds the canyon formed by the little Cassibile river. The Canyon is about 10 Km long and has steep stone walls, over 300 m high in some points. Cavagrande is located few kilometers from the little town of Avola, southern of Syracuse. The main access point to the canyon is the little road which passes near Avola antica, a town destroyed by a terrible earthquake in the year 1693.

Spring is a great season to visit the nature reserve because the temperatures are mild and the landscape is fullfilled with flowers. During the summer months it’s also possible to have a bath in the fresh little lakes which are located at the base of the canyon.

Beautiful Sykes Hot Springs

Posted by on Dec 12, 2015 in Adventure | Comments Off on Beautiful Sykes Hot Springs

Sykes Hot Springs is one of my favorite places to take first time backpackers who are reasonably fit. The destination has some nice hot springs and a trout filled stream. The hike is pretty. The trip is long enough that people have a sense they have accomplished something, but short enough that it’s not overwhelming for most.
Sykes-Hot-Springs-The trail is easy enough to follow that no maps are needed and there is little to no risk of getting lost. There are a number of clear milestones, so people can easily see that they are making progress. The conditions tend to be moderate year round so there is never a bad time to go.

Os Jardins de Marqueyssac

The Marqueyssac gardens are on a hill overlooking the Dordogne River, with splendid views. The primary planting is boxwood hedging, with cypress and wild cyclamen. The box is more sculpted than clipped, with the organic shapes harmonizing with the landscape. The clipping is done, by hand, with only four gardeners and the planting dates from the nineteenth century.

Beautiful Village on the Coast – Scopello

Posted by on Dec 4, 2015 in Travel Tips | Comments Off on Beautiful Village on the Coast – Scopello

Scopello is not more than a hamlet above the coast in Sicily’s north-western corner. But for several years now, this low-key destination has been in vogue not just with local people but with trend-setters including film directors and magazine photographers. The picturesque little spot may become a victim of its own success, but in the meantime it is still a remarkably scenic spot for a swim, a leisurely meal or an afternoon excursion.
scopello-Scopello is a tiny village on the coast between the fishing and resort town of Castellammare del Golfo and the Zingaro nature reserve. This part of the Sicilian coastline, though dotted with villas and a few seaside developments, is nevertheless unusually well-conserved by the standards of this construction-happy island. There are attractive stretches of rocky coastline and green hillside nearby, and Sicilians from as far away as Palermo come to the Scopello area to enjoy the landscape and the sea bathing.
